
Colin originally trained as a mental health nurse and has worked in the field of mental health for 32 years. He studied for post graduate qualifications in the areas of personnel and management. More recently he had significant experience working as a board level director in a Mental Health Partnership Trust and as a Head of Commissioning.
During his NHS career he has acted as external assessor for a significant number of senior appointments, in NHS, social care and Independent sector organisations. He has also undertaken a number of homicide and suicide enquiries at a national level for NHS organisations and the Prison Ombudsman.
With the development of the National Care Record System, Colin was appointed as the senior user for Worcestershire’s Mental Health Services to provide clinical leadership and advice to the national system suppliers.
With a sound foundation in operational, clinical and organisational management he is well placed to advise on service delivery and service redesign opportunities.
One of his key strengths is the ability to mentor and develop individuals and teams through difficult change management processes.
Until taking on the development of his consultancy business, Colin was an active member of the National Mental Health Partnership’s – Workforce, Training and Development group for more than 8 years. He was one of the key instigators in the development of the Midlands Ward Managers Development Programme for mental health.
Colin is currently the Department of Health's lead in the West Midlands for the Care Services Improvement Partnership, overseeing the introduction of the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation Of Liberty Safeguards and Amendments to the 1983 Mental Health Act.
